Hidden Meaning

In this picture, Frances is doing something that she often does: she’s hiding.

Hiding takes several different appearances: she might lift up her shirt to hide her face, she might crawl under a table or chair, she might build a fort, or she might cover her whole body with a blanket.

Whichever she chooses, she is escaping — maybe feeling safer, maybe controlling the amount of information coming towards her — and I try to get her to a quieter place since we interpret it as a sign that she is overwhelmed.

I love to write, make art, etc. about my children, 16 and 12. I'm just doing what I like to do, and, if I happen to be raising awareness of high functioning ASD (my 12-year-old daughter has HF ASD), that's great.
